Estimation of serum zinc and alkaline phosphatase in malnourished children

چکیده
The serum Zinc, Alkaline phosphatase activity and Albumin levels of 50 protein energy malnourished children (6 months – 5 years) were compared with those of 50 normal chil-dren. The levels of zinc was found to be significantly low in malnourished groups and tended to vary with the degree of malnutrition as compared to the control group (p<0.001). These levels were lower in children who had skin lesions than in those without such lesions (p<0.001). The alkaline phosphatase activity was also lower in the malnourished children as compared to control group (p<0.001). There was a positive correlation between the alkaline phosphatase activity and the zinc concentration. The low serum zinc levels were also corre-lated positively with hypolbuminaemia. In summary, malnourished children are often in negative zinc balance and may develop systemic zinc deficiency. Replacement with supplemental zinc may be needed to maintain or replete zinc stores.

Correlation between serum alkaline phosphatase and vitamin D3 levels among 1-14 years old malnourished children- A descriptive observational study
Background: Vitamin D deficiencies are highly prevalent globally, but the correlation between serum alkaline phosphatase and vitamin D3 deficiency among Indian children is seldom investigated. To describe the correlation of vitamin D3 levels and serum alkaline phosphatase levels among children admitted with malnutrition to the pediatric wards of a tertiary care center. Methods: This descriptiv...
متن کاملبررسی سطح سرمی روی در کودکان مبتلا به پنومونی
Background and Aim: Pneumonia is now one of the most important causes of childhood mortality in developing countries like Iran. The increased susceptibility to pneumonia, particularly in malnourished children of developing countries, is postulated to be due to reduction in cellular immunity. One of the reasons for reduced immunological competence in malnourished children may be zinc deficie...
متن کاملSerum 25-hydroxy-vitamin D levels in malnourished children with rickets.
Serum levels of calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, and 25 hydroxy-vitamin D (25-OH-D3) were measured in normal and malnourished children with and without rickets. Children with rickets had clinical, biochemical, and x-ray evidence of the disease; most of them were malnourished. 25-OH-D3 levels were lower than in normal children. After treatment with vitamin D their condition improved. 2...
متن کاملThe levels of Serum Alkaline Phosphatase and Lactate Dehydrogenase in Hodgkin Lymphoma
Background: Hodgkin’s disease (HD) is a neoplastic disease originating in lymphoid tissue, which spreads to lymphoid structures and ultimately nonlymphoid tissues. Lactate Dehydrogenase and Alkaline Phosphatase are increased in blood following membrane cell damage. The aim of this study was to compare Lactate Dehydrogenase and Alkaline Phosphatase levels in children in different stages of Hodg...

Introduction: Cancer and chemotherapy could decrease serum Zinc level. In this study, serum Zinc level was investigated at the beginning of cancer diagnosis and 3 months after chemotherapy in children with all types of cancer. Method: In this cross sectional study forty-five 1-15 year old children who were newly diagnosed cancer cases (leukemia, lymphoma and solid tumor) were evaluated. Pat...
